Hi all.

Got my results  today from my pet ct scan. Unfortunately not got a clear one.  There is still uptake as they called it from the dye ,showing at the back of the tongue . My cancer was diagnosed a t4 tonsil and tongue/ soft  palate originally. Today had mouth examined visually and by the scope . Oncologist said he couldn't see anything other than some swelling base of tongue which is affecting the epiglottis. So hes arranging a mri with contrast which should be in about 2 weeks  then the results 2 weeks later.  Absolutely  gutted, feel like this is never ending. He said don't worry try not to get anxious about it, its not normal but slso not unusual.

Well thats easy for him to say.

  • Exactly the same happened to me Tracy. Thankfully I was being looked after by both Maxfac and Oncology And my surgeon got me in for a biopsy the following week rather than wait months for a re scan.
It came back with no cancer present

How many weeks after treatment end was your scan?

  • Hi Dani I was 12 weeks exactly.  He said depending on results I may need biopsy  too.

  • I was 16. My oncologist said that 12 week scans often threw up anomalies due to remaining inflammation and that they preferred doing them at six months. There has to be a balance between accurate results and the cost of pursuing these anomalies and patient stress and expectation so they did them at 16 weeks. In five years I was the only one that had a positive result
