Husband’s latest symptoms

My husband is a year post chemo/radio for HPV + SCC of the tonsil and metastasis to neck lymphs. He showed no disease in January but last few weeks has been noticing a tingling sensation where the large lymph was in his neck and yesterday felt a pea size lump there.

Of course I’m now in worry mode. He has an oncology check up appointment on the 3rd August which he won’t try and bring forward. I’m worried it’s returned but has anyone had similar experience please?

Thank you

  • I am 2 1/2 years post CRT and even more post surgery and I still get lumps and bumps and different feelings turn up every now and again.  As a general rule if there is something worrying me then if it is still there 2 weeks later I will ask for some advice from my clinical team.  In his case it is probably quite reasonable to wait until the 3rd as long as he is not worrying over it.  How we reassure our partners that we are not really concerned about changes that they know about is a mystery I have yet to solve!

That’s natural but we all get stuff rearing its head that isn’t cancer. I have a three week rule. If something isn’t improving in three weeks I contact the hospital. Luckily 3rd of August is not long.
I know it’s hard but you can drive yourself insane worrying about anything new that pops up. Your husband is being sensible so leave it to him, he’s right.
