My husband refised a feeding tube throughout recovery
as it ended up he had such badly damaged tissues he ended up having an emergency tracheostomy! He had a near fatal bleed . It was a huge huge mistake and he had been in so much pain too, finally blood vessels artery was exposed. They got to him just in time and coiled everything via emergency surgery.
He is 8 months post final radiotherapy and only now has feeding tube and this trach .
anyone have any similar experiences?
I can understand your hubby's refusal...I wasn't given a choice with my PEG feeding tube...not happy at the prospect of having it in place for 6 months with all the equipment care needed, site cleaning, infections, night pump feeding etc...but it was a life saver for me...and many others.
Good luck
Michael
