Hi i had my tl 9/9/25 could not have vp because of acid reflux. So 6 months later and on Tuesday 10/3/26 got vp next day surgeon came looked and said sorry its leaking Ok he said let's wait couple days may heal speech and language came got coloured water and said all ok anyway I can't speak don't no what's up any one had same 

  • Hi Scamp, I’m one of the Community Champions, sorry to hear your news , I’m a Laryngectomee with a prosthesis for speech, I’ve never had one not work but they are very hard when first fitted as the back valve flap can be a bit stiff and I have to use more effort (wind) to force it open.
    I’m assuming you have spoken with your Speech Therapists concerning the matter, have you tried brushing through the valve as that helps as well.

    Perhaps if you come back to me I can perhaps try and suggest other options, be honest the first option I would be looking for would be a valve replacement, which I have had on occasion, for the first 4 years I was having valve changes approx. every 3 months but that’s improved now.
