Hi all, I’ve not been on here for a while but I’m having the same problem “swallowing”

At the moment it is worse than ever as I am struggling to even get fluids down.  I can drink but very slowly and I am managing yoghurt, custard and things like that.  I seem to have good times and bad times

I saw my consultant in February and I got the all clear and go back in May but at the moment I’m not having a good time.  I always appreciate your advice and support so I would be grateful for any advice.

  • Hi Lilian. You’re about three years out of treatment aren’t you?

What did your consultant say about your swallowing issues when you saw him in February?

  • Hi Dani It wasn’t as bad then as it is now, it just seems to have gotten worse since then

  • Hi Lillian,

Personally if I were having a deterioration like you suggest then I would be on the phone to my CNS asking for an earlier review.

I am 2 years out of CRT and sometimes have swallow problems - more recently so.  However, I am fairly sure that I caught Covid in early February and that knocked me back as it is slowly getting better.  There seem to be some vicious bugs going around that cause all sorts of havoc.  All said, get it checked out especially as it is distressing you.

I agree with Peter, give your CNS a call.

  • Yes... nearly 3 years since finishing CRT and I still have an odd day when my swallow is a bit suspect...it usually sorts itself out... but it's concerning at the time.

  • The swallowing comes from a build up of mucus in my throat which I have trouble getting rid of   I keep struggling with it

  • I know this sounds yuk but can you use those pink sponges on a stick to pull it out with ?
