Hi

I'm just coming up for 1 year post op. I had cancer in my tonsil bed and  had neck dissection  followed by tors robotic surgery.  I was lucky enough not to need chemo or radiotherapy .

After my neck dissection I suffered some ear pain for about 4 weeks. I have had some speech issues but my voice sounded different to me and I talked like I was deaf.

I have just been diagnosed with hearing loss in my right ear and a problem in left ear, obviously not connected to surgery.  I was fitted with my hearing aids this week and what a difference. Has anyone else suffered with hearing loss?

  • Yes me. High end in ear on treatment side. Looking at the map of my treatment disease I can see why. Also tinnitus which I always had but has ramped up after RT.
    Hearing aids help both.

  • Yup…me too. No tinnitus but my previously very acute hearing fell off a cliff.  Hearing aid (one ear only for now) have been a real game changer…particularly as   blue tooth enabled for the phone.

  • Yes I have high end hearing loss in both ears and tinnitus in my ear  treatment side which had most zaps. I'm on a very long waiting list for aids ! I'm having a other test at my  next appointment with consultant,to see if it's deteriorated more .

  • Thanks for reply. Luckily no tinnitus but just hearing loss. I teach in school so didn't want the long nhs wait , so had test at opticians with audiologist  .cost an arm and a leg ( luckily daughter works there so got discount) but worth every penny. I got emotional after they were fitted because I could hear my old voice properly again and my speech got better.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long .
