Hi All.

T4N1M0 hpv+. Treatment 6 weeks chemo radiation completed 31/10/25.

The results of Pet scan show some issues on the right tonsil with possible concerns on a right lymph node. All primary gone from the left side.

They have offered either to wait for another scan (in 2-3 weeks time) or go straight ahead with the ND and right tonsil removal.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. It seems quite a big procedure for a precautionary op.

Thanks

Becky

  • I had issues with my PET and was offered a biopsy. Sorry that’s not much help as what is being suggested for you is surgery

  • I have had both done a couple of times.  The tonsillectomy is quite uncomfortable for 10 days or so and the neck dissection did not really trouble me.  I always like to have all the information available to me before I balance up the risk vs reward of treatment options.  From what you have said I think I would wait for the next scan to get a better understanding of what is going on.  It feels like they are not pressurising you to have the surgery by giving you the 2 options.  However, only you can make that decision.  Good luck.

  • Thanks

That's what I'm thinking. Only trouble is my mouth doesn't open very wide anymore!

  • I suspect that under GA they will be able to open your mouth further than you can at this stage.  It may be a little uncomfortable post surgery.  I am sure they will have considered the options available to them before offering them to you.
