Hi Guys

i had my selective neck dissection on 9th September 2025

thought I was doing ok

back at work on reduced hours by November 4th 2025

over the last few weeks have been experiencing worsening pain in the right inner ear along with severe trismus and pain in the right side of my jaw especially when I open my mouth to eat

also voice is kinda weird in the mornings

cant Take strong painkillers as they make me drowsy and I already have severe fatigue

I originally was treated for squamous cell carcinoma in right tonsil which had spread to lymph nodes on right side of my neck, radiotherapy and chemo for six weeks in late 2024

still having difficulty swallowing and discomfort

any advice gratefully received as always

lastly lots of anxiety over cancer returning

Not in a great place

  • Hi John. I would contact my medical team and get an appointment to check out what is going on. Stress your concerns so that the appointment is made fairly quickly. They should be able to sort things out for you.It might turn out to be something fairly simple that is easily remedied.  It is difficult not to get stressed out but the sooner you get an appointment the sooner you know what is going on. Recurrence is not that common so fingers crossed it is more related to your past treatment.

  • Thanks sophie

i am seeing my MDT next Wednesday

    the pain is unreal!

  • Glad you have managed to get an appointment quickly. Could you try a cold compress where the pain is bad. If it is inflammation then the cold might help a bit. Does paracetamol take the edge off at all? You can take it along with something like Nurofen which helps inflammation. Hang in there.

  • Hi Guys

they looked in my ear and throat with the scope

nothing of any concern was seen

i may have an ear infection that is causing the pin in my ear and jaw

They are arranging an MRI scan to have a look what’s going on in my neck

minds a little more at rest

    we will fight on Thumbsup

    John

  • Hi John. That is a relief and I do hope that the ear infection is treated a.s.a.p. They can be really painful. Good luck with the MRI.
