Husband had hemi mandibulectomy about 7 weeks ago. Just getting to eat slightly solid food.
Appointment today. Last lot of results says no cancer. Yay! We talked about my husband having radiotherapy.
5 days a week for 6 weeks at Canterbury which is an hours drive away. (At least) So 3-4 hours driving a day. Or longer by bus or train.
For a 15-20% reduced chance of recurrence. He is 75.
Nurse ringing tomorrow to hear his decision.
He says he’s not having it for those odds.
I think I would say the same.
Hugs Sue. I hope he heals quickly and you can both get on.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Sounds like a well reasoned decision.
i had a partial mandibulectimy with fibula flap 11 weeks ago and also had clean margins and no spread. Mine was aggressive and T4 so I have decided to have the offered radiotherapy even though it’s a 10-15 % improvement. I am 59 and have had a few minor run ins with tongue cancer over the past few years too,
All the very best for the ongoing recovery (which is hard enough ) and the future.
Not looking forward to the radiotherapy which starts on Monday but hope to be well on the road back to health by Christmas
