Discharged

Hey all

Five or so years ago, i was diagnosed with tonsil cancer that had already spread to lymph nodes. I was extremely low when i posted for advice on here and was considering refusing treatment as everything seemed so grim.

The support i got on here was one of the reasons i took treatment, and five years later i have been discharged by my consultant due to 'no sign of recurrent disease'

I have also recently returned from my first foreign holiday in 5 years (norway cruise) and have another cruise booked for may- i have joined the gym to work off the fat i built up on my hols.

Life is pretty good, and i just wanted to update and thank those who offered support back then. It really helps talking to people who have been through this.

I should spend more time offering advice to others on here, truth is i rarely think about cancer nowadays.

Thanks

Trev

  • Hey Trev, how wonderful to hear you are so well

i rarely think about cancer nowadays.

    Which is brilliant.
    and

I should spend more time offering advice to others on here

No you shouldn’t. You’ve shaken off your trauma the best way you know. There are lots of others here to chip in with help. I sometimes feel that those of us not at the sharp end of this can offer limited help anyway.
The best is posting such an encouraging update. Hugs.

  • Over 2 years since my CRT finished, doing fine.

Most of us were pretty well wrecked physically and mentally by the diagnosis and treatment.

Great to read that you have hit the 5 year mark cancer free, gives hope and strength to those who are going through the treatment.

Many head and neck patients reading this will take heart, the forum is a great place to find support and sound advice.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  • Oh Sue that is so kind. I try my best. I remember how it all seemed so strange and at times hopeless at the beginning.
