Saw the MaxFac consultant this morning.  We had a long talk about everything that's worrying me and she promised not to keep anything back from me.

She said that there is not anything that is obviously jawbone cancer.  However there is an area of concern that may well be due to the ORN, but I need to be aware that it has the potential to be cancerous.  I am having a little op on Sept 30th to remove two teeth and they will do a biopsy at the same time.

Two MaxFac consultants gave my tongue a very close examination and the only thing they spotted was one tiny little red mark that they said might potentially be a problem. I haven't had a H&N check up since my 5 year discharge in 2018 so we decided it would be a good idea to get one done.  My H&N consultant retired years ago so they will find me another one and get me an appointment asap.

I was due to go back to MaxFac on Monday for a follow up to check how the gum incision was healing.  They said I could cancel that appointment as the wound is healing very well.  They were very pleased that my vision is now back to normal, no more vertigo or earache, no pins and needles or pain anywhere.  I can open my mouth fully again.  The numbness is now only left at the corner of my mouth and it's not a bother.  Facial swelling much improved.  It seems that there had been pressure on my cranial nerve which the procedure released.

So it's sounding more optimistic than I originally thought.  It may still be cancer but I could end up with just a diagnosis of ORN.  I should have an answer the beginning of October.  I'm finding writing my blog helps with the anxious wait so I'll start doing that tomorrow.

  • Thanks for letting us now. The situation seems much more in control and calm now so fingers crossed
