My mind is in turmoil at the moment.  Could do with a hug.

  • Margaret, what's happened? Is it to do with your tooth abscess?

Oh and a huge huge hug xxx

  • I just read that they are messing you about with a referral to maxfac. Do you still have your old CNS contact details? They seem to keep the same phone number and email address for any replacements

  • Hugs to you. I'm sure people will be on soon to reassure you. Lots have had their cancer come back and have dealt with it but yes, a scary time nevertheless. I worry mine will come back too. Hope you are wrong about this. Let us know what's happening and what the sign are. Hope you have good doctors and support around you. Wishing you the best, Carolyn x

  • Things have moved on considerably since then.  Very poorly yesterday. Rang 111.  Ambulance immediately despatched. Spent day in A&E but the Maxfac clinic was shut.  But I get booked into MaxFAc for a gum incision this morning.  They're expecting loads of pus but it's only blood.  They redo the bloods and xrays from a week ago.  Little sign of infection but there is now a shadow on the jawbone.

Told I need to go for a scan, they'll book an appointment.  Then there is a fortunate cancellation and they can see me now.  Magically I bypass the entire queue in the department.  Get asked a lot about my previous cancer history.

I was originally told there would be a follow up appointment next Monday and I'd get a text with the time shortly.  Text never arrived.  I've been through all this in 2013 and I'm pretty sure I know what'll happen next.  I suspect the phone will ring and someone will have found an earlier appointment, and casually ask if my husband would be available to drive me, he'd be welcome to come in with me.

Perhaps I have it wrong, but there were a few other little hints too.

  • Hi Carolyn. Thank you for the hug, much appreciated.  I've explained what's happened in reply to Beesuit.  Hopefully I've got it all wrong but it's great to have this forum to support me.  The folks here were terrific to me when I had cancer in 2013 and it's lovely to know that there are people I can reach out to.

Hope you are wrong but they seem on top of it straight away.

  • Thanks Dani.  I'm feeling a bit calmer now.  What upset me most was that I started my cancer journey in 2013 in that very same clinic.  That day there was suddenly a broken machine but a colleague in the next clinic had one.  That happened to be the Head & Neck cancer clinic.  Didn't know what it was at the time.  Might as well stay in here now says the H&N colleague, it'll save you walking back to Maxfac.

  • Thanks Hazel, much appreciated.  I'm going for a soak in the bath now and then an early night.  I'm very grateful to you and everyone else who replied.

  • Little sign of infection but there is now a shadow on the jawbone.

If it is cancer there are folk here who have had successful surgery so don’t despair. I’m sure Lyn @Sophie66 will be here later on when Australia wakes up
