Hi all, my partner was diagnosed with npc back of last year, he successfully completed 6 weeks of radiation therapy and is currently 4 months i to recovery, his doing amazingly well, back at work full time and eating and drinking practically everything which is great considering how much he suffered during treatment. He has attended two six weekly check ups which involved a endoscopy which was alooking good, he has attended his regular check up today and due to bleeding blocking the view throughout the endoscopy he has now been asked to have a  biopsy done, this would have been today hower the tools were not long enough to carry out so unfortunately means we have to wait two weeks for an appointment to have this carried out, am very worried after two successful outcomes what this mamean, the Dr did not mention reoccurence just couldnt see due to the blood clot blocking the view, has anyone ever experienced this before? Trying to be positive as it's not necessarily bad news but at else could it be? I need to stop googling!! Thank you x

  • ,has anyone ever experienced this before?

I can't put your mind at rest from personal experience but you're right you do need to stop googling. It's a horrid situation to be in. I do understand. I had a hiccup with my post treatment PET and had to have a biopsy. Thankfully the cancer had gone. It could be  healing/scarring that has been disturbed by the endoscope. Remember the irradiated tissue is very delicate for a long time.

Post treatment my dentist made my tongue bleed by rough handling it out of curiosity to see what it looked like...He never did it again!

His ENT is being super careful. Fingers crossed

  • Hi, RCMR. I didn't experience any thing like this during my checkups, however, for quite a good while after my treatment it wasn't unusual for me to get nosebleeds, or in the morning spit out blood, like Dani said the tissue in the radiated area is very delicate, and that's exactly what my consultant said when I told her about it. It's good they are being so thorough with it, hopefully they will be able to put your minds at rest. Fingers crossed for you both.

    Ray.

  • Thanks ray, I spoke with his nurse today and she advised it could well be that but they just want to be sure, its just a scary process isn't it having to wait and his never had to have further investigations before so am automatically assuming the worse!! Thank you for the reassurance it helps ans hopefully all with be good x

  • Thanks dani, am just assuming the worse, the nurse explained it could well be that like you say, hopefully the results will be good - thank you for the support x
