My husband now has thrush and we are wondering if he should be doing different types of mouth rinses and if he should continue to use steam to help with his sticky saliva? He was using the biotene mouth rinse for his saliva issue and needs salt and baking soda rinse for thrush. We are waiting for his doctor to call in a prescription. He had a great day yesterday and now this. It is so frustrating!! This is week 6 post radiation.
I don't think it matters what mouthwash he uses as long as he keeps his mouth clean, especially after anything sweet. The yeast loves sugar. I was advised to use Corsodyl last thing before bed (it doesn't work if there is SLS in the mouth so has to be taken half an hour after brushing teeth) I did it religiously through treatment even though the first 30 second hit was awful. I managed to avoid thrush until I finished treatment and then only got it once. A week's course of Fluconazole sorted it
