Tonsil cancer T2N0M0 chosen to have neck dissection then Tors robotic surgery.

Had meeting at hospital today for pre op assessment, bloods done and ecg, already for surgery next week. they didn't talk much about neck dissection just my main op.

Had meeting with dietitian and speech therapist. Explained thoroughly what was going to happen etc. My voice could change but not sure yet.Told I'd have fetanol patch for pain relief plus buzzer for me to administer myself. I'll likely be in  hospital for a week ( might just get out for my birthday). Going to be on food replacement drinks for few weeks . All felt abit much today with information overload. Have done alot of crying since I got home but guess thats normal.

Can't fault the amazing care Ive had so far.

  • Hi Lin, good luck with your op, you will be in good hands, then on the road to recovery.

  • It’s overwhelming having so much info at once. I cried in the middle and after my consultant / planning meeting. sending positive thoughts your way - surgery cures 50% of all cancers apparently!

  • Good luck with everything - sounds like you’ve been well prepared by your team. Keep us posted!

  • Hope all goes well  good luck x

  • It is so much info. I took notes and my partner who was with me would always tell me things that was said and I still somehow missed.

The neck dissection was much less eventful than I thought and they are saying it might be up to a week at the hospital but it is more because they want to monitor you, not because you will peel poorly or anything for such s long time.

The care during my stay was amazing as well.

You will be okay I am sure.
