Hi just wondering if anyone could recommend a travel insurance company for Europe. Just thinking about a wee trip away but haven't explored the travel insurance yet. Thank you xx

  • Hi I used stay sure or travel with . It depends on how long you are going for I go for 9-10 weeks so I took  the hit for the cancer to be covered.  ifyou are going away for a few weeks as long as you declare your treatment many of them will insure you often the cancer isn’t covered do that’s  your choice if you’re happy to travel with the cancer not bring covered.
I’m now past the need to declare as 6.5 years post treatment

Is that accurate? Is that past treatment or past your last hospital consultant appointment?

  • Hi, Jg123, I have used Insurancewith a few times post treatment, the company was started by a lady who had had cancer herself. The cost is very reasonable compared to other companies, who seem to load the price when cancer is mentioned. However, you only find out how good any company is, if you have to make a claim.

Payingtoomuch.com insured me when no others would...quite reasonable....remember to take your GHIC card.

  • With my insurers yes I’m using l v now. .its all in the wording of policies so many variable it’s why I always ring snd never rely online quotes.

some are 5 years from treatment finishing irrespective of follow ups as they are check ups not treatments.
It’s all in the wording mines have you had cancer in the last 5 years the answer is no now

have you been treated for anything in last 2 years no   I then ring snd explain

  • Can highly recommend "InsuranceWith".

Used them for a holiday in Spain last October to mark the end of treatment and they gave me a really good quote. Many companies wouldn't insure me at all, and several others wanted £300+ for a week.

Went with them fully covered for just £31 which was great.

  • Nationwide (flex plus) have just agreed to insure me again post treatment.  They will not cover anything related to the cancer but all other risks are covered.  No excess premium and full worldwide cover.

  • Yes, I raised an eyebrow at that.  Most of the travel insurers I’ve dealt with ask if you have ever had a, b, c etc, so you would have to declare it irrespective of timescales.  Their supplementary questions drill down into length of time cancer free and I suppose they assess the risk according to their various algorithms ….and of course load the premium accordingly.

I spend a lot of time in Cyprus. Healthcare there is excellent and not horrendously expensive so I’m happy to travel without cover for cancer.  At the end of the day, worst case scenario, it’s a 4 - 5 hour flight.
