Hi I am now 18 days in 35 radiotherapy on base of tongue.one problem I have is that water tastes slimy and horrible if anyone has any ideas to make drinking a bit more pleasing I would be very grateful
Thank you trying at the moment to still drink some tap water think I am still getting about at least 2 litres down
Hi Peter
It is weird isn't it about the water. It is supposed to be odourless and tasteless, if only it was. I had my last radiotherapy in 2019 and water still tastes bitter to me, although I drink it to keep the fluids up. Unfortunately for me my taste has been altered long term as I have had 2 lots of radiotherapy on both sides of my face. I might try the sparkling water to see if that is any different.

Thank you still managed to drink but really hoping my tastes come back after treatment fingers crossed
Approx. 1 year post treatment .....My taste is now about 90%...and still improving....
Peter
I had a real love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with water after surgery and radio…not so much the taste which I could tolerate, but the fact that it tended on swallowing to rise up the back of my nose…horrible sensation. They gave me some thickening powder which made it easier, although the water gained something of the consistency of tapwater paste. I’m over it now…mostly…. I used to love sparkling water but was told by the dentistry department not to drink it because of the acid and potential damage to teeth. We really can’t win at this game. Haven’t told them I’ve recently tried…and liked…dry white wine diluted with water and don’t intend to!

Hi Liz. Instead of sparkling water try plain soda water I have a soda stream and use tap or bottled water. The gas cartridge gives bubbles you can water your wine with a bit of fizz. Well done on white wine no chance will my mouth tolerate white or red . I can do a very week sangria topped uk with soda water.

I’ve only ever used soda water. You can buy it in most supermarkets as well read the label there’s no sweet additives.
