Today we went for discussion about treatment planning. My husband has scc hpv16 positive tumour on tongue. Oncology seem confident can offer curative treatment. They are saying 6 weeks radiotherapy and Cisplatin chemotherapy on weeks 1 and 5. My husband is type 1 diabetic so there are more concerns re renal function when having cisplatin. Anyone out there Neen in this position. How did treatment affect diabetic control renal function etc. Such a daunting time
.
Hi. I know there are a few people here who are diabetic. Hopefully they will pop on to answer your questions.
The dieticians are well used to coping with comorbidities so try not to worry.
The platinum can be a worry but it’s not the end of the earth if your husband can’t have the second dose. Many people do well without completing the chemotherapy which actually add only around 6% to cure rates.
Best of luck xx
