Sore throat after anaesthetic

Hi folks,

3 years on and all good at my last check up.

Had surgery on my foot on Wednesday and my throat is really hurting. I am guessing it is bruising from the anaesthetic around my voice box area. Has anyone else had similar?

It went after a day when I had my PEG removed, but this is noticeable with every swallow now. If no better after the weekend I will contact CNS, but wanted to check with you huts how normal this wad.

Thanks all

Gill

  • Hi Gill the tissue there is more sensitive than normal and will forever be so. I bet it’s just sore after intubation. I would give it a couple of weeks. I get sore throats when the weather changes. So I get them often! Maybe I should move to the desert? Wink

  • PS. Lovely to hear from you though. How are you doing apart from this?

  • Hi Dani,

Had thought maybe that, thank you. I've done ok only had 1 really bad cold this winter. Its the sinuses and phlegm for me. Ah, but the desert would dry mine too much. I was pleased I managed nil by mouth for 8 hours without drying out - funny what makes up proud now!

Life is going well. The grandkids are fine, hubby good and Pip adorable as ever. Managed to plant out the veg, ready for Nick to look after while I recover.

Hope all good with you xx

Good to hear you are doing well.  I think, as others have said, it is the tube that has bruised you.  I always make a point of asking my anaesthetist to be gentle with my throat, but they still have a job to do.  Hopefully it will settle down in a few days.
