Two weeks of radiotherapy and my taste buds are already fried and it is with regret that I do declare that the pleasure of eating has just vanished into thin air.

A sticky toffee pudding with custard might help me feel better Joy

  • Sucks doesn’t it.
    its not forever though.

  • Its canny depressing...........but short term loss for long term gain Relaxed Thanks Dani x

  • I lost taste overnight a few days after treatment ended.  That probably lasted around 4 weeks before I started to regain some taste.  Now 3 1/2 months later I can taste most things and recognise what it is that I am eating.  It is more muted and sometimes it varies from quite a strong flavour to almost nothing during the course of a meal.  All standard for the course I am afraid, but I hope you regain taste as quickly as I have.

  • Thanks Peter, I just need to work around it. (sigh)

  • OMG  feel you , I used to love lemon drizzle. Had some that tasted of cardboard. Now you can chase me with the stuff. Same with chocolate. But… the taste buds do  come back and you may find foods you loved , chocolate for me, doesn’t appeal anymore

  • We all feel you on this... but just hold on to the fact that it will come back. Might take a while and might be different for a while but it will get better. I'm 9 months out of treatment and fruit has still been my nemesis. But I've had a few strawberries over recent weeks (just one at a time) and the taste is getting better... Otherwise, I'm pretty much back to normal eating.

  • Hi DesRoss

I bought some sour jelly sweets today thinking that in the slight chance of tasting the sour - not a thing Confounded.

At least my teeth are winning!!

  • Thats good to hear Liesle, thanks Relaxed

  • Your ablities as a poet seem undiminished though  , I'm hoping that was intentionalGrin

Lordy, the taste bud thing was one of the hardest bits to deal with! All a bit of a distant memory for me now, but I do remember being a bloody miserable bunny.

  • Hahahaha thanks MikeO.

Yep, I can deal with the RT but the lack of tastebuds just upped the dire misery I find myself in..albeit short term.

Anyway onwards and upwards......in deep now but moving towards the finish line - 17 RT days remaining.
