I was diagnosed in 2021 with right tonsil cancer that had spread to lymph nodes. Was rushed through treatment including having tonsils removed then chemo and radiotherapy. During this time my energy levels went through the roof and I started cycling, trekking and camping. Now 2 years after treatment and the all clear, nothing no energy, no motivation and constant pain in various parts of my body. I'm 56 years of age and some of this is age related but I also know that the effects of the treatment have finally got to me.
Hi Backpacker.
Im 73 and over 5 years clear of treatment. I don’t feel anything like that and I’m sure I didn’t at your stage. Get yourself checked over by your GP starting with a blood test for your thyroid. RT can cause significant hypothyroidism which might account for your lethargy.
effects of the treatment have finally got to me.
So you could be right.

Hi please get thyroid checked I have mine done yearly. I’m 67 6 years out snd I’m certainly not slowing down due to treatment or age. We’re over in Spain snd regularly cycling 60 plus km a day plus walking 200 km a month. Ok we all are different but at least 60% of us could have hypothyroidism hence the annual bloods.
hope this helps yiu to recover your mo jo.

Hi Backpacker
I am now 70 and one year since my reconstruction. I found it took me a while to get my energy levels back but slowly got there, however I do find that I still have to pace myself and take breaks and can't go for as long as I used to but definitely much improved over time. No issues with motivation and pain. I don't have the motivation that Hazel has in relation to walking and cycling but that is not unusual for me as I never found exercising as exciting as many do. Good on you Hazel keep it up. My exercise is taken with gardening and taking short walks so a more leisurely pace.
It is unusual that your energy and motivation has plummeted and definitely needs looking into. Constant pain should not be there either. The only pain I get now is if I have spent too long on a physical task that my muscles are not used to such as carting pavers etc when gardening.
