Hi
T2N1M0 tonsil cancer ....4 chemo 30 radio....finished treatment June 2023
Just had my first dental check up since finishing treatment, was a wee bit apprehensive but all went smoothly, cannot open as wide as I used to but my dentist was happy enough with my efforts, happy enough with my teeth and gums....check-ups now yearly.
Peter
Did you ask about a varnish?
Personally I think check ups should be six monthly if you have xerostomia.

Hi Dani
Did not ask about varnish...I was quite taken aback, drove my wife into town for a 6 monthly scale and polish appointment, while I was there I enquired as to when I could restart dental appointments...I was told there had been a cancellation ...10 minutes later I was on the chair...dentist checked me over and said it was now yearly checks....dry mouth is a problem, I will enquire about 6 monthly checks at my next oncology appointment 8 weeks from now.

Ha ha. Ambushed!
Yes please do. Not many dentists are up to speed about our side effects. As long as you’re brushing with Duraphat a varnish can wait.
