Cat Interaction ︎

I have three cats. One of them, Roja a ginger female (80% ginger cats are male) started kneading my torso every morning since diagnosis, more or less. Yesterday I came home from hospital with RIG tube in place so this morning was the first with this new development. Roja came to me at the usual time - just as we both wake up. This morning she sniffs me through the duvet right over where the tube is fitted - very interested in whatever she was detecting. She then started the usual kneading motion keeping well away from the wound site and looking at me to see if it was ok. It was so ok. I was really moved by it.  A real feeling of being cared for by a cat. As I write. I’m quite sure some people will think it’s mad but there maybe other people who might get it - so I thought I’d share. I spend a lot of time interacting with this cat and it feels amazing that there is this connection between us. I hope this will resonate with some Cat2

Does with me. I was a vet before I retired and had many waifs and strays over the years. My first cat was hand reared from about a week old and used to travel everywhere with me draped over the back of the drivers seat on my shoulders ( the days before head restraints and seat belts) Despite his very bad start ( found cold and “dead” in a street gutter) he lived till he was 18

  • Does with me too. Our cat has never been one that sits on your lap, likes to sit next to you with her back against your  leg, but ever since I had surgery in June she's wanted to sit on me. Every time I get something done, like the PEG, she looks at me like she's asking if I'm okay Heart

  • I agree Dani, I seriously think they can have a healing effect. The power of love.

  • That’s great DeeDeeDee ! There can be real communication. Mine arent ‘lapcats’ either. I think it’s to do with how much close human contact they had in early weeks of life. Mine are all rescue cats and will sit on cushions on our laps but not skin to skin.

  • Brings new meaning to having a CAT scan.  Sorry - I know its an old and well past its time dad joke!

  • And the fact they send you for a PET scan too! It’s all about the fur babies x

  • Hello Steven, I have 7 cats all rescues all with special needs. What shines through is their ability to know when something’s off.  Before my cancerous tonsils were removed, one would really hiss and spit at me like she could smell it, after surgery she was fine again.  Before and since diagnosis and treatment my wee Birnie has been very attentive completely out of nowhere. Seeks me out and lies close and tight.  He smells my breath a lot too so he knows the score.  He still does it post treatment 13 weeks ago now, no PET scan results til next week so I’m hoping I’m clear and his Velcro like behaviour isnt a sign of something else.  Cats are very intuitive.   I trust them completely.  My dog was the same; he’d react to my migraines- he knew before I did that I was due one, amazing creatures Take comfort from them xxxHeart eyes catFeet a vital part of this lonnnng recovery road.

  • Hello NixgtheNoo,  with special needs ! They sound great Thumbsup tone2 thanks for sharing about them. I got a nurse visit yesterday and my most nervous and shy cat came down to meet her - he‘s never ever done that with a stranger.before. She said “oh yeah cats love me” - and clearly they do. I love living with cats - very special creatures Pray tone1

  • Hi Steven, absolutely  I understand when I came home from hospital, pud pud my little Russian blue wouldn’t leave my side , I slept on the couch for a while and she was there . Animals know when we need them , and she helped me when I was anxious and stressed
