Return of the mack

Hi everyone, haven't been around for a while, getting back to normal etc anyhoo seems my luck has run out and now facing the return of the old big C.

This time however, it's taken root in my right lung, and awaiting treatment plan but obviously no cure.

The reason I'm posting here is because lung biopsies showed it was an off shoot of the old Scc hp16 I had on my tongue back in 2019.

Because of that I was taken off the lung pathway and back at St James in Leeds on the head and neck pathway.

The real kicker for me is when I had ct scan back in 2019,it showed activity in the right lung, but was put down to possible infection.fast forward to Jan 2020,got all clear both lung and tongue.

Now in three short years I'm faced with T4 N3 Mb1,tumor gone into liver there.

Should  I have had yearly scans after the first tongue cancer,I don't know, is it even protocol.

Anyways doesn't change owt,but mebbe we should check these things out ourselves, could have caught this way early  but sadly that boats sailed.

Bugger all symptoms, slight tickly cough, but some breathlessness, which made me go to docs

The thing is,from what I've read from people,Facebook and roy Castle website, at that point of coughing etc you're looking at stage 4 more often than not.

Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but I think we need to know, all I ever worried about was getting sore throat etc and thinking oh god it's come back, well it had but now in my lung...

  • Hi

Hell! I’m so sorry to see you back.
in the States they have PETs regularly post treatment but it’s all Insurance based.
    Hindsight though

Tgere have been some good results with immunotherapy. I have a friend at The Marsden on an immunotherapy/vaccine trial and his cancer is stable.
I hope you get in something like that. Do let us know how you get on.
    Hugs

  • Hi Martin oh no so sorry to hear you’re back on the circuit. As a Dani says there’s very good results coming from the Royal Marsden Professor Vin Paleri has a dedicated head snd neck reoccurrence unit. You are well within your rights to ask for a refferal. Please don’t think Leeds would be upset. Eho are you seeing at Leeds ?
We don’t get regular pet ct scans after first year in the U.K.

Here for you as always. Please keep in touch

    hugs Hazel xx

  • Hi Dani,Hazel,

Will be seeing Dr Podesta, part of the systemic team on the 8/9,referred on from Dr Dyker.

Three tumors in right lung, two at 10cm,one at 5cm,inoperable, radiotherapy would make me too poorly.

Looking at initial burst of chemo and then immunotherapy, usually 2 years max ,intention is too shrink tumors.

Was hoping for a mutation from lung biopsy, that would mean tablet, twice a day and see where we go,anyhow that didn't happen, but not end of world.

Originally thought after effects of covid, very slight tickly cough, and breathlessness climbing up hill to home bout mid June time.

Good to see you are both well

Cancer not curable but treatable, the best we can hope for is to keep it at bay for as long as possible

Will definitely check in on this new journey !

  • Hi Martin. Is that Christine Podesta. Done work with melanoma where immunotherapy is routine. I’d still contact the Marsden where you might avoid the chemo At least gave a chat with them?

  • Hello Totolemar

I'm so sorry to hear this. You sound very sensible about it, but the idea that it might have been caught earlier must be upsetting. Sending love and I hope the treatment plan is helpful
