A few years ago I had mouth cancer and an operation involving a rim mandibulectomy, removing some (I’m not sure how much) bone from the jaw and reconstruction using flesh/vein (but not bone) from wrist.
Recently I had a bad cycling accident, knocked out, and falling on my face. I have a bad cut and swelling to the jaw. It has also created pain in the joints of the jaw, so I’m back to eating soft food! I was thoroughly checked in A and E, and no serious damage, although a lot of bruising, cuts and pain. Still recovering.
My concern is if I’ve done damage to my weakened jaw, and if the trauma makes a cancer recurrence more likely? Has anyone else experienced accidental trauma after surgery?
Hi Daffne
I'm sure a quick call to your surgical/oncology team will put your mind at rest. You're still being monitored so you should get a quick reply.
