Hi everyone... just an update
We are now in 3rd week of treatment. My hubby hit the predicted initlal wall over the weekend. Liquid paracetamol which he gargles with seems to be doing the job..to enable him to eat relatively normally just some small adjustments to softer veg etc. Loss of taste started in week 2 and certain foods like bread tastes horrible.
A couple of ulcers, radiotherapist gave him oralieve.
Constipation is under control with a combination of prescribed laxatives. Sensing this will need some adjustment in later weeks as pain relief is increased.
Initial tiredness seems to be improved but he does have a sleep for an hr most days after treatment. And his life apart from shortish walks has become pretty sedative.
Some lovely beeswax lip balm sent to us by Dani to help those lips from drying. Daily routine of mouth washes, regular cleaning of teeth, application of gel for ulcer, aloe vera and prescribed cream (helping keep skin relatively normal colour so far) Routine is definately longer than any women I know. But of course all for a good cause.
Cannot thank you all enough for recommendations of products you have tried, sharing your experiences so we know what may or will occur. Your blogs make good reading for those who walk in your footsteps.
We are certainly braced for the later weeks and post treatment weeks.. hubby has met a couple of patients who are on the same treatment (ahead of him, week 4 and 5) whom seem relatively well so that is encouraging when oncologists seem to prepare you for the worst aspects. The longer it is before it becomes full on the better.
Hope all are well and thank you once again.
Gail.
Thanks for the update Gail. Both of you seem on top of things and I'm sure you'll be through all this in no time xx
