Morning everyone, after a bit of advice for my hubby........  he finished his treatment on 28th Dec (chemo and radiotherapy for throat cancer) and is still suffering with horrible secretions and not tolerating food - even soup - still feeding mainly by peg.  We have now noticed a large swelling under his chin and across both sides of his neck. He also said there is aching in his jaw and the pain in his throat has never been this bad. Should we be worried and has anyone else experienced this.

  • Hi JBu

The swelling sounds like lymphodema. Contact his team for advice. There are massage programmes available to sort it. I had some under my neck and there’s a short video in my blog showing what I did to remove it, but do go with professional advice. Aching in the jaw is normal too. Is he doing his jaw exercises?
It’s still early days for pain so I wouldn’t be too concerned

We get a lot of thrush post treatment so that’s worth checking out too

    When is his next review?

  • Hi JBu it sounds like lymphodema ti me as well ask if his hospital has a lymphodema clinic he can attend. It’s early days for him we all want ti get back to a new normal it does take time. He’s bern through brutal treatment and it does take time. I was still in painkillers at 3 month stage.
