Hi everyone,
so 3 weeks since my operation, still on lots of pain relief, but I can feel getting better, more discomfort than pain.
I can still only eat soups and milkshakes etc
How long before you could eat solid foods ( sound like a baby) and how do you know you can eat solids? I’m bit scared to try as if I get any lumps or bits in soup they feel like they sticking in my throat!
Any advice or suggestions?
Thabk you
Hi
I was the same, I was afraid to eat. I started gradually introducing more solid food, mashed veg with gravy. Porridge, etc my triumph was crumpets with oodles of butter and creamed cheese. Three weeks isn’t very long since your operation. My operations were July and August by Christmas I managed Christmas dinner, took me longer but I did it. Lots of people on here will give you some good suggestions.
Ohhhh sounds nice, I’m starting to feel hungry but think probably too early to try!
Do you know why, it’s difficult to eat? Is it the swelling?
Hi. It was partly due to the swelling, feeling really sore, and afraid to eat. I always felt like it was getting stuck, my speech therapist helped, have a chat with them, they can give you exercises to help. I would say it was about 6 to 8 weeks, before I was eating more solid food, but I now believe a lot of it was also my own fear. I couldn’t even swallow my medication for the first 2/3 weeks had liquid meds. It does get better, just takes a little time and confidence
Thank you for your reply!
I also struggle with meds most are liquid but a couple aren’t, it’s a right performance!
I think the speach therapist is due to call me soon so yes il have a chat
Hi Misscjayne I presume you have a pill crusher. I know what you mean about a performance as it use to be the most important function of the day once I made it out of bed
Hi Misscjayne
I have trouble swallowing whole pills using water as they just stay in my mouth no matter how much I drink. I have found that if I put the pill on top of a small spoonful of custard or yoghurt they just go down with the food. It has really made a difference.
