Hello it’s been a few weeks since I was last here. I’m now 8weeks post radiotherapy. I thought I was making reasonable progress with food but the sour horrible taste at the back of my mouth is constant whatever I try to eat and drink. Unfortunately I had a blackout a few days ago due to sudden drop in blood pressure. Cut my head etc etc. Inevitably this has dented my confidence and food and drink has become a bit of issue as I also have type 1 diabetes. The hospital team and gp have been very supportive and I’m currently having more tests to get to the root of the problem. I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue. Feeling a bit down as I’m anxious about this happening again when I’m out and about. I’m trying to be positive but finding it all pa bit of a struggle.
Hi. Good to hear you’re through the worst. I had problems with my blood pressure but they resolved in time
Carotid arteries have pressure receptors. If you had RT aimed around your artery it might have taken a bit of a hit. I’m sure your team will know that but it might be worth a mention. Similarly we get a dose to the thyroid. So make sure you have a thyroid test. I get mine checked every year and take statins to help protect my neck arteries.
Do let us know how you get on and best of luck

I wrote a blog about my cancer. just click on the link below
I had trouble too with my blood pressure and used to get dizzy for a while after radiotherapy. I found that if I made sure that I did not stand up quickly but stood for a few seconds before walking this helped. Also keeping my fluid up made a difference. I still have to keep an eye on it especially if I get dehydrated. It does knock your confidence but I found it did improve over time.
I always carry a bottle of water with me to be on the safe side and if I start to feel dizzy I sit down and take a very long drink and this sorts it out for me.
