Hi everyone. I’ve had constant tinnitus in my left ear for about 3 weeks now. It is driving me mad. My ENT consultant on Monday said it’s a side effect of treatment but didn’t give me any ways of dealing with it. Anyone got any tips?

  • Hi Sian. Yes both RT and Cisplatin can cause it. It often gets better but sometimes not. Check your hearing checked to start with and make sure you’ haven’t got congestion in your middle ear. Can you pop your ears?
I have hearing loss in treatment side ear and it makes the slight tinnitus I had before, worse.
An audiologist should be able to help.

  • Hi Blod tinnitus is a known side effect from chemo cisplatin, and to a certain extent the radiotherapy as Dani says. Get your ears checked by an audiologist as well they may be abke to offer help. My sister in law has tinnitus  and lives with ut by playing white noise have also head that CBT can help. ( cognitive behaviour therapy’s)I know others who manage to block it out Mike one of our community champs was talking about doing that the other day.
