Hello
i went to my GP in early summer. She gave me an urgent 2 week referral to dermatologist but unfortunately the dermatologist got it wrong. Said ‘ doesn’t look like cancer’ and she gave me a bottle of shampoo and some ointment which I use for two weeks. One out walking with my husband. He mentioned that it was odd that the dermatologist hadn’t understood the word pain and so I rang pals and they booked me in with the consultant dermatologist who took one look at my scalp and said it was a BCC6 weeks elapsed since my initial appointment and I went to see the surgeon for the first visit a few days ago, where he diagnosed another BCC on my nose. I didn’t like his attitude very much because he looked at my scalp and said “it’s a good size!“. It seems to have grown a lot and I’ve had quite a lot of pain with it, but I don’t have any options regarding surgery because of its size so it’s only a few days since I realise that I have another PCC on my nose and I’m finding it a bit difficult to cope because nobody I know seems to want to actually talk about how I feel. I don’t have a Macmillan nurse but I find it really important to talk about my feelings regarding the whole thing, not just a diagnostics and not just the medical side but the emotional side too. The fact that I’m going to be losing a lot of my hair at the front of my head obviously worries me and although I know unfortunately not need chemo I’m still sad thinking about its loss and now I’m going to have an operation that will cut into my nose and leave a scar , it’s all happened so quickly! Looking back at photographs I can see the beginning of the BCC on my nose. Has anyone else had an operation to remove a large BCC on the scalp? I’m not sure if I want to be awake or asleep during the procedure
Hi Portobelloprincess.
sorry to hear about your cancer. I have a BCC on my leg so I can offer some sympathy I know the surgeons can do MOHS on areas where you can’t afford to lose any skin like round the eyes and nose but I’m not sure about the scalp
The Community has a separate forum for skin cancer. You could post your questions there fir better replies.
Good luck
