Hi all,
I spoke with my nurse the other day about the horrible mucus, she advised that a bicarb mouth wash or a fizzy drink would help.
I chose the fizzy drink and went with cola. I took a few sips and it felt like a firework had gone off in my mouth, and ever since the roof and back of my mouth have been so sore, as if burnt.
I've just taken a dose of paracetamol to top up my morphine see if it will help with the pain, as the morphine alone hasn't, but taking it orally irritates my mouth.
So I'd like to ask a daft question... if i take the paracetamol through my NG tube, then flush the tube after {as the paracetamol is thick and sticky} will it dilute the paracetamol ?
Thanks people
Hi you can get prescribed or buy liquid paracetamol or crush the tablets and mix with water then syringe via ng tube. Was the coke diet ? I coukd just about tolerate diet but it was hard. Soda water allowed to go slightly flatter is better. Try a saline solution 1 littre of water 1 teaspoon salt and same bakin* powder or bi carb put in a bottle rinse and spit should last you a few days . To be honest there’s very little you can do with mucus I had a humidifier in bedroom and night and used a nebuliser 5/6 times a day. Plus carry copious amounts of tissue and spit into them. It’s yiur mouths way of protecting itself but yes it’s horrid. It was aeound week 6 of recovery before mine went onky to be replaced with the dreaded dry mouth.

I have liquid paracetamol and have been doing salt water rinses, But my question was ..
if i take the paracetamol through my NG tube, then flush the tube after {as the paracetamol is thick and sticky} will it dilute the paracetamol ?
Because anything i take orally now makes the roof of my mouth sting like ......
Hi no it’s no different than having a drink of water after orally taking paracetamol. My tube was regularly flushed with water ti hydrate me.

Hi Catmarel
I have always put my meds through my peg i found it easier and less hassle never had a strenth issue and always worked i never went on morphine but was on zapain four times a day and did the trick.
Probably will need your tube as you go along it will be a godsend did ask about putting my meds through peg and doc was good with it said it quicker than waiting for things to dissolve so in your system quicker.
Good luck
Chris
