Hi my partner had an operation in august removing some teeth and replacing tissue in mouth which was taken from inside of arm. Mouth has healed fairly well, sounds short tongued when talks and chewing difficult with back teeth missing. However although the scar has healed lovely on his arm, after all the weekly bandage sessions during this last month he has lost ability to close hand, spasms go up arm regularly ( nurse suggested certain type of spasms painkillers and been taking them 2 weeks even on double dose and no change). He’s hand and wrist are swollen and although they mentioned physiotherapy he never got an appointment. He’s had other areas checked mri, ct scans etc and now is on radiology. He’s having PEG fitted tomorrow so the integrated check up that’s finally appeared was for same day so now it’s been pushed to January. Point is do we push to get someone to see his arm/hand which is hurting him so much or is it just a normal painful experience after the surgery procedure that will fix itself. I worry as I strongly believe pain is our bodies warning mechanism and I’m anti painkillers but hate seeing others in pain. I think he needs to push to get sorted asap but if others have experienced this and it’s not ended worse due to long timescale then that would be very reassuring. Especially as he has lung operation in mid January to go through too which is at back of mind as well. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Hi Sheila and welcome. Sorry to hear your partner is still having problems after surgery.

Yes...push. Stuff like this doesn't heal itself. It sounds as if there is some lymphoedema and maybe even some nerve damage. He definitely needs physio. Most big hospitals have lymphoedema clinics so contact his CNS daily if you need to.The fact that other things are happening doesn't take away the fact that quality of life is important.
Stick around and let us know how you get on
