General Query: Nurses - Difference?

My Sister-in-Law has recently been diagnosed with Breast cancer and is soon to start chemotherapy. She had an appointment with a *local oncologist this afternoon and she and my brother spoke with an Oncology Nurse afterwards. When I asked if it was a Macmillan nurse, he told me No. I thought that all Oncology Nurses were Macmillan affiliated, am I wrong?

* Sister-in-Law was diagnosed in Glasgow (70+ miles away) but is to be treated locally.

PS - I am trying to convince them to join in with these forums for support but without any success as yet.

Thanks Again,
Bob

  • I thought that all Oncology Nurses were Macmillan affiliated, am I wrong?

    Yes you are, Bob

    Sometimes they are sometimes not.

The latest report I can find is ten years old so I don't know if it's still current

Macmillan Cancer Support currently offer support for approximately one third of the cancer specialist nurse population in English Cancer Networks.

  • As Dani says some CNS are sponsored by Macmillan and hold the title "Macmillan Nurse".  Others are equally as professional and knowledgeable but are entirely funded by the local Trust.
