Hi Everyone

So I had a tongue and nasal biopsy on 26th sept had to be there at 7am and was the last one to go down to surgery at 2pm, I was desperate for a cup of tea lol.. when I got into theatre the consultant came and looked at my tongue and said ulcer had healed so no biopsy needed. Had 3 taken from nasal cavity . Consultant said he will see me in 3 weeks which will be 19th Oct.

On the 5th October.  I had a neck biopsy and the consultant wanted to take tissue from lymph nodes . He went in three times and it was uncomfortable but I persevered.  Then he said I can't get enough to send off for testing, it's probably reactive nodes , I said does that mean it's not cancer ? He said I can't say that for definite..

Do reactive nodes last for 4 months because that's how long mine have been enlarged? I thought it was 2 -3 weeks .

So what should I expect now . Recieved a letter with an appointment on the 19th for telephone call, is that good news on the nasal biopsy  do you think? consultant said he wanted to see me so why telephone . I'm confused a little anxious and not sure what happens now , will I need another neck biopsy? Sorry for the long post .

  • Hi Sarah. It’s all a bit up in the air isn’t it.
Biopsies take around two weeks to report so the timing is about right. Nobody will know the results till then.  The only thing you can do is wait for your appointment. You could phone your consultant’s secretary to ask why a F2F is now a phone consult.
The other questions need to be answered by your consultant. Reactive nodes can last as long as they are mopping up infection though a radiologist can make a good stab at a diagnosis with an ultrasound. The only proper confirmation is by biopsy.
Waiting is awful and you’ve already done a heck of a lot of that.
