  • Hi.  I only had "traditional" surgery my TOLS was abandoned.  I did have 2 neck dissections. However, I suspect the trauma is much the same.   Soups were good.  Try to avoid anything with acid in it - tomato soup is a no-no unless you want to be on the ceiling in pain!  For the first week it was things like soups and lukewarm drinks.  You could try Complan with full fat milk.  Ice cream can also be good.  It is about getting calories into you to help the body heal.  Also need to keep up with the fluids.  By the end of week one I was on things like shepherds pie and other soft but more textured foods. By the time the review appointment came up around day 14 I was more or less back to regular foods.

  • I ate lots of luke warm Ready Brek with double cream. That and custard, with more double cream, were all I could eat for a while. Then I gradually introduced things like scrambled eggs, cheese etc as things healed over, which they will.

  • Hi Star

My dietician told me to try and make everything that I eat high in calories along with a supplement  drink such Fortisip, Ensure, Sustagen.

I rely a lot on soup. I make my own with store bought stock and add baked beans, vegetables and a store bought frozen Shepherd’s pie. I then blitz the lot in my Nutrabullet blender. I figure I get all the calories and nutrients from this soup and it also helps to keep me regular.

It gets away from all the sweet things which can get a bit tedious in the taste department after a while.

I also eat soft stewed fruit with custard. I figure that makes my diet reasonably balanced.

Hope you are back to eating normally in no time.

    Best wishes

    Lyn
