Hi All - just a quick update to summarise my last 2 weeks of treatment and I'm currently half way through week 2 recovery. In short:
- Painful by end of wk5 and started oramorph during weekend before wk6
- Mucous became annoying in wk 6 and was a real nightmare by wk1 recovery, still an issue and causes gagging (yuck).
- Using the nebuliser is marginally helpful
- Spitting a LOT (getting through tissues at a rapid rate)!
- Using the RIG for Fortisips since the mucous took over as it makes me gag and I'm simply not going to eat something then immediately throw up the calories!
- Still swallowing and I can drink water and take all meds and thin soup orally
- Daytime now just on paracetamol (oramorph only used at night)
- Skin on my neck healed completely by end of wk1 recovery - highly recommend the Propolis cream, it is magic. I just look like I have a tan.
- Mouth has been sore, I've had small blisters that come & go quickly; currently feel some at the back of my throat 'drying up' which makes me cough (vile!)
- The RT has brought my freckles out on face and back of neck - how strange!
- Zero appetite so food is fuel
- A few meltdowns, but generally when everything started coming at once and I didn't know which side effect to dress first, extremely frustrating and worthy of the odd tantrum!
It feels like 2 steps forward and 1 step back at the moment, but certainly small improvements each day. I'm glad I have the rig tube (which I barely notice now - never thought I'd say this 3 weeks ago!) - But can't wait for the mucous to lessen so I can entertain eating orally again without gagging!
Onwards...

Hi Helen. It all sounds beautifully on track even though you feel absolutely carp! The fact that you can still swallow is excellent.
I could do it for Wales( though not very far) Sometimes I had to ease it out with my fingers…. Yuk.
It went as quickly as it came.
Your transient mouth blisters are actually blocked minor salivary ducts so your mouth is making a valiant effort to heal.
Well done. A day at a time and give Peter Harvey’s article a re read.
