This is the email I sent to Pals this evening:
Hi. Sorry to hear you failed your second MRI. There seems to be quite a bit of misinformation and lack of communication here. Whoever referred you for your second MRI must have known there wasn’t an open machine. They are quite different from a bog standard one as you actually sit up in it. The newer scanners are wider and open at either end. The radiographer was understandably miffed that you were given the wrong info but nevertheless it’s no excuse to be rude. More blame lies with your referring consultant. I do hope you get some justice over this and that there is enough info in your CT to proceed.
One thought I’ve had is that parents are allowed into scanning rooms with their children as there is no dangerous radiation. Could you perhaps ask if somebody can accompany you?
Don’t give up. You need to get through this.

I'm so sorry you have had this problem with the MRI. The radiographer should not have been rude to you, that is unacceptable. Myself and my family have been supporting my son, who had cheek and jaw cancer. He gets very claustrophic and when he went for the MRI scan he had a panic attack. However, the hospital radiographer advised him to speak to his GP to get diazapan. He was given another appointment for the scan and had diazapan prior to going to the hospital. He managed fine with it. He went on to have an operation to remove the tumour and rebuild his jaw, then 2 sessions of chemo and 33 sessions of radiotherapy, He took diazapan when he was fitted with the mask and for the first session of radiotherapy, after that he managed the radiotherapy without any problems. He is well on the way to full recovery (fingers crossed), in fact him and his wife and children have just gone to the Lake District for a short holiday.
Don't give up, speak to your GP as well as your consultant to find a solution to your problem.
Please keep us updated.
Regards
Macfarlane

Oh dear Dani has said it all. Ask if someone can hold your hand or maybe sit at the feet end and talk to you maybe stroke your leg something to comfort you. Please don’t give up if it’s head and neck cancer they are eminently curable Hope you get sorted. Can you try diazepam? To calm you ask for an early appointment might be less stressful than waiting ?
