It's in! Went in late Monday afternoon, home this afternoon. Not a pleasant procedure but all staff at Eastbourne were fabulous. Quite shocked at how painful and debilitating it is at the moment. Couple of questions.
Can you buy some sort of protection to wear over it. I'm terrified of catching it, This seems to be high-up, left side.
Not allowed to get it wet for a couple of weeks?
Cleaning around it, when does that have to start?
Any other help or advice?
Start Chemoradiotherapy on Monday so hoping itsxa bit more comfortable.
Helen ........ how are you getting on?
I didn't have a RIG so can't help much but just wanted to say well done. It's high up left side because that's where your stomach is. Can you stick it safe with some micropore tape? Would that work?
Good luck with the chemo on Monday

Hi Helen well done on getting your RIG fitted. with mine I stuck it down with some tape, to stop it moving about under my shirt. As for cleaning it. Is the district nurse going to come to see you? He or she will show you how and when to clean around it. When you have the stitches out, you will be amazed on how much better it feels.
Ray.
I hope so. 3 days down the road and it's very painful tonight. It's like waves of pain going through a very stretched and bruised muscle. Takes my breath away at times!
It's was OK today but I had a CT.scan this afternoon which may not have helped getting on and off table and in and out of car!
I did have Oromorphine prescribed but have just taken it at night maybe I shoul be taking it more often????
Chemoradiation starts Monday could do without this too!!!
Alfieangel,
You Must Keep taking the Oromorph at regular intervals or when the pain hits. When I had a RIG fitted it was quite painful for 7-10 days but soon settled.
I used some Micropore tape to restrain "the dangly bit" of my RIG and it seemed to work OK.
PS - Keep taking the Oromorph
Bob
Bought tape and a 'belt' thing hold it in place but can't use it yet. That long tube hanging scares me in that I'll catch it. How long does it take for the buttons to fall and stitches to heal???? It's better today but makes me feel very cringy if try and move. I will take OM that's why they gave it to me afterall!!!!
I start my treatment on Monday, chemo in the am, rt in the pm. RT rang me today and suggested I take OM before the treatment starts. I am TERRIFIED about Monday, the mask is the top of my lists, I hope once I there it will just roll!!!!
Nearly there, it's taken months!!!
Any advice???? X
Take it one day at a time. Don’t look too far in advance. For chemo days a book kindle or tablet long charger as well . Some snscks . Remember during chemo you are given lots of saline so by afternoon the mask will possibly feel snugger than you remember. Let the team know they can adjust the fastening By Tuesday the fluid will have dispersed. Take the oramorph if you’re in pain there’s no prizes for bravery.Don’t fear it please it’s there to help to get rid of cancer. You can do it I did and I’m a wimp.

The mask is a bit of a challenge at first but you will soon get over it. My method of coping was to close my eyes and count the seconds - usually between 90-130. I couldn't have chemo so I can't comment on that.
Good Luck - You will make it and it will all be worthwhile
Thank you. I'm going to have another look through breathing exercises this weekend. X
