Hi - a quick update. I had a full day yesterday - cisplatin and lots of saline, followed by radiotherapy number 1.
Taking all my meds as instructed - I do feel a bit queasy today, it feels a bit like car /motion sickness, nothing I can't handle so far. Just had a mint tea and that tasted nice. Appetite seems to have dipped, but forcing myself to eat anyway. I was sent home with the anti-sickness / steroids/ reflux / Laxido medication, plus Difflam mouthwash. All sounds familiar!
My mask was very tight! But the team worked out a way to create more room so I could eventually start the treatment. Due to the adjustments, they took a few images against the plan to ensure all still aligned, so it took about 15 mins instead of the usual 10. But I requested music, which the young team member immediately apologised for .... but I was delighted as it was '80s tunes! It got half way through the 4th track.

Well done Helen, off and running, it'll fly by now if you're the same as most; be over before you know it!

Great. You’re on your way. I had music but didn’t hear a thing I was so busy swivelling my eyes round to look at the machine as it passed round me. The mask was tight because iof the fluids. It will be better the next day.

Hi - my mask was still so, so tight today and yesterday - more adjustments made - so hoping that my bloated face calms down a bit by tomorrow! It looks a bit slimmer tonight!
The nausea is awful, especially combined with travelling in a car. I felt yuck yesterday and most of today, but seem a bit better this evening, managing to eat more too.
It's so busy so I need to regain my energy - in the last 2 days, on top of RT, I've met with the dietician (goodie bag) , speech therapist, RT nurse for a review (another goodie bag) and my oncologist. It's like a full-time job!
Starting to feel a bit more human this evening, it has been an exhausting week so far. I'm already n bed at just gone 7pm!

Well you're ticking off those days. How many chemos are you having?
Don't forget if the anti sickness meds don't work there are better ones your team can give you. Don't be brave. Tell them how awful you feel and you'd like something done about it.

I'm have 2 chemos, so my next and final cisplatin is on 25 July - not looking forward to it I must say!
Yes, the radio team today mentioned that I could speak to the nurse if my nausea hasn't calmed down and I wanted to try different anti-sickness meds. I'm seeing my head & neck nurse tomorrow after my RT sessions so will mention if I feel icky!

If you’re just having the two you’re getting a hefty dose each time so no wonder you’re feeling sick. Keep drinking. That’s important. At least it means you have some time to recover. Well done.

Yes, pretty hefty doses I should think - in the day ward for chemo from 9am to after 4pm, then into RT with the face a size of a pumpkin and struggled into my mask! Amazingly, I felt quite chipper on Monday - but Tuesday & Wednesday not so good. I do feel a bit better this evening. Hoping for tomorrow to be a little better again.
