Mask done - officially start treatment Monday 27 June

I have my mask - very odd experience, but not bad. I've requested eye holes - fingers crossed! He did say we'll do our best but it can affect the integrity of the mask. I nodded and said - okay but I'd really like them!

Postman delivered a letter just before I left for hospital today with my start date and it is now confirmed as Monday 27 June. I did originally receive a booking call for 20th June (and was posted a green appointment card with my 2 chemo days on) but the radiographer confirmed 27th when I saw him today. Quite relieved as I didn't feel ready to start next Monday and still have my follow up dental check to be confirmed (feels fully healed to me already) so I think there was just too much to fit in this week.

So the countdown has begun. I'm glad it's not starting this coming Monday as I wouldn't be psychologically ready I don't think - always had a hunch it would be 27th. Also, it means that next week I'm free to go to my son's first sports day and his concert - we've had nothing since covid and now they're all coming together Smiley The other bit of luck is that the 1st (of 2) cisplatin days is not on the 1st day (Monday) but on Wednesday, which will give me a bit of time getting used to the RT first.

  • Hi Helen pleased you get to see sports day and  concert , time wise a weeks ni big deal. I started 14 July 2018 , gives you Christmas to win for l I managed albeit a smaller position of Christmas dinner and trifle for dessert.
Chill out these next 10 days .

  • Exactly - I'm hoping to be able to manage a reasonable Christmas dinner (with most of the trimmings!)  I love Christmas pud, but that's tough to chew even under normal circumstances (I love the really rich stuff), but I'll give it a go! My sister makes a great trifle if the pud fails!

I'm delighted I'll get to go to the school activities next week.

  • Lots of double cream and custard works well. Plus don’t need an excuse to eat it we need it to help food go down for a while.Every cloud has a silver lining !

  • Oh yes, I love double cream with Christmas pudding! And the more gravy on everything the better Smiley

Good news you have some time. I'd have been surprised if they could do the planning that quickly anyway.

A little delay has no impact. I was nearly six weeks between mask and RT. Just not enough capacity at Swansea so had to wait my turn.

    Enjoy your week off

  • Hi Dani - I was thinking the same, given that the RT team and oncologist have to meet and plan, there's simply no way they could've done that by Monday surely! I'd have felt it a little rushed to say the least. I'm glad it's starting a week later as I can get my head around it and feel fully prepared. Not to mention I get to see Stanley in the egg and spoon race Smiley
