4 weeks post radiotherapy and i wish the pain would go. Its mainly ulcer pain, extreme pain with eating to the poibt of crying, hurts when i talk and drink. Hurts when i rest. Sleep is the only thing that helps.
im on co co cocodamol , gabapentin , oramorph pre food, ibuprofen and have various mouthwashes. Using oxcetacaine, gelclair, difflam and although they help the pain persists. Im at yhe end of my tether. Ive sooke to Macmillan on the phone, she suggested zomorph, tried that but was literally like a zombie and horizontal all day. Previously tolerated it post op but ontop of everything i have was zonked out but more importantly the pain remained. Other than that, been advised thats it case if just putting up with it. Any help/advise would be appreciated. Thanks x
When I was at that point my GP prescribed me MST, a slow release morphine tablet taken twice each day. Although the pain was never totally eliminated, especially when trying to eat, it helped me enormously and made things much more bearable. Hang on in there (although I know you’ve no choice) as things do gradually get better.
Hi Clare
sorry to hear your the same. Youd think this day and age there would be something they could do?? It’s debilitating isnt it? Everyone keeps saying wow you look so well, makes me feel guilty as im not back to work yet.
yes I’ve emailed Macmillan team, ill let you kniw if i get any answers xxx
It’s a real problem and you just have to ride it. Try just taking liquid or smoothie bland food for a week. Give your mouth a rest
Another thing. I know some centres are trialling photobiomodulation ( low level laser) for mucositis with enormous success. It’s a shot in the dark. Ask your CNS?

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi Elaine. What are you trying to eat and drink ? Msybe ti give your mouth a break reign it back to very bland thjngs. Radiation ulcers do take time my tongue one was over 3 months before it healed totally. I learned to live with it I thought if something wouldn’t be eaten by a baby /toddler than I wouldn’t eat it. You will turn a corner itis early days for you. Although you might not think it.
Slerp does become your friend remember you’re also fighting the radiation fatigue.
