Under chin lump concern

Dear all, over the weekend I noticed a lump under my chin. It is under the skin and it is not visible, however you can feel it. Quite small to the touch.
It is directly under my chin, about an inch from the front, central and in line with were the graft and tongue meet above in my mouth, therefore I am unsure if this was due to part of the surgery.

It feels connected to the outside of the muscle and I am uncertain if it is moveable. I was not sure whether all the nodes had been removed from this region, the report mentions levels 1-4. It is not easy to tell from reading the histogolgy report alone. Looking at the pictures of the anatomy there doesn't appear to be much in that area, seems to be on or around the digastric muscle.

Wondering if it is scar related when they removed the nodes or whether there is a node left, curious if anyone else had any experience of the same or similar.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Mr Fox. I haven't experienced this but honestly it sounds like scar tissue. Some level 2 nodes are around the Digastric muscle. I would contact your CNS if you are worried. Your team is there for you and will always see you if needed.

  • I would also contact your CNS just for an initial chat.  They can then check it out if they feel they need to to be on the safe side.

  • I have so many lumps and odd things in my chin/neck post surgery (mouth and neck dissection) I find it hard to know what’s what. An MRI of my post operative topography has been made, and nothing showed up as sinister. So lumps are not necessarily cancer, but anything new or different should be checked just to be sure.

  • Thx all, I've been in touch with the H&N team, hopefully they will be in touch soon.
