Hi Wendy
Well done on getting through so far. It must have been so hard on top of the RT
5FU is the culprit.
The same pain regime you used for your radiotherapy should work for this bout of mucositis too. I see you were on Ibuprofen, Paracetamol and Oramorph. How did that work for you? Did your team give you Difflam, Gelclair, Caphosol, and Antacid Oxetecaine? I'm not sure how long chemo mucositis lasts. Can you contact your CNS for more advice?
I hope you get through this soon

Good luck. It’s one thing to get through RT then to face the same problems with chemo. Hope you get some help xx
If the oramorph isn’t touching it maybe ask for long acting morning and night which is what I have.
There are always Fentanyl patches too.

Hi Wopsan,
I too found that Caphosol relieved a lot of the oral discomfort but also found it very difficult to gargle until about 3 months after finishing RT.
I have just posted elsewhere on the Macmillan Community that I am now finding relief using Sparkling Mineral Water, swallowing, gargling and spitting; it helps to wash away mucous. As I said, don't go for the expensive brands, I use Tesco Own Brand - Tesco Perthshire Sparkling Water 2Ltr - Tesco Groceries
Take Care,
Bob
