I just cannot believe I've reached this point! And what a journey it's been.
On Friday I will have completed 35 RT sessions and 5 out of 7 chemos. Unfortunately I wasn't well enough to have 2 of them. I've spent 4 weekends with the acute oncology team and have had just about every side-effect going! Loads of various infusions and a 2.5 stones weight loss due to vomiting. I'm now hooked up to a syringe driver for sickness and, amongst other things, enjoying the benefits of fentanyl patches!
I know the RT is exponential and the next couple of weeks will still be a trial but I'm soooo looking forward to crawling out the other end of this. I can't wait to eat a boiled egg and down an ice-cold drink! Simple things
Absolutely a great post, I was in hospital for the last four of my 35 sessions and I'm pretty damn sure I didn't have such a positive outlook! Life will be good again, with your attitude I have no doubt; hold those good thoughts.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Brilliant SpecRad. It sounds as if your head is through this well before your body. The road looks impossible at the beginning but a day at a time gets you through. My food dreams were a steak and a beer. I managed a both at 12 weeks. It didn’t taste of much but boy was the beer good!

To be fair, I'm trying not to be disappointed by my food dreams and aiming low! I really want a dirty burger and cocktails!

Great upbeat post, especially with the rough ride you've had. Well done on getting here and give that bell a welly on Friday. Enjoy not tecking to hospital all the time from next week. Keep up with the fentanyl if needed for next couple of weeks helped me. Keep listening to your body and sleep as much as needed. Cheers and crisp sarnies were a dream food, made it there eventually
Take care, Gill
