Hello, bucephalus here for my latest update.
Still no pain or loss of taste.Review at Xmas found no cancer, but an ulcer on the voice box due to the RT treatment, but 4 weeks later ulcer had cleared. In early January had a CT scan which found a nodule on the chest and spots on the lungs:-Used to be a heavy smoker until I stopped in April 2005,sometimes up to 100 a day but an average of 40.Radiographer happy with these, but to be safe the scans have been sent to a Cancer Specialist to examine.Recently I had an Endoscopy which found 2 red circles in the OESOPHAGUS which have been biopsied and photographed.Have to wait until the next review on 3rd March.THINKING POSITIVE ABOUT THE RESULTS.
Good luck and best regards to all of you.

Tony I did it the other way round, chemo/radio in 2014 then voice box removed 2020. I'm guessing you have a speech valve, if so, have you been what effect the RT might have on it? I can't have a valve fitted due to the tissue damage done in 2014, just wondering whether they're expecting any issue in your case.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hi Mike
my consultant recommended I didn’t have prior treatment due to the problems with damage as you appear to well know, they wanted me to have RT after, got the mask fitted but then asked lots of questions the pros and cons made me decline
The new cancer came along and they said if I had have had the radiotherapy the treatment for this would have been limited. They have assured me my valve won’t be affected but speaking to the radiologist today they say rays won’t get that high but may touch the bottom of the stoma so am hopeful!
Hope this helps ask anytime

Sounds all good Tony, I'm really content with how I am, been without a voice now for nearly eighteen months and I get by fine so no compaints at all, was just interested how things were for you.
I've hated "small talk" all my life so having an excuse to avoid it suits me fine
Really hope all goes well for you.
