Hello
Just to update my radiation burns are better ️
But now suffering really badly with thick saliva which is yellow/green to the point making me very nauseous and vomiting any recommendations for solutions or improve symptoms
Hi. Well done.
Drink as much as you can. See if you can get 3litres of water of some kind down. It will help thin the mucous. A nebuliser is useful but I managed with my head over a bowl of steamy water a couple of times a day and lot of spitting. You can buy a humidifier to keep by your bedside and keep the bedroom warm. It will get better. Mine just disappeared at around six weeks.
Some oncologists are happy to prescribe a mucous thinning drug called Carbocysteine which might help.
Hope this helps
Best wishes

It just occurred to me that you might have an infection if the secretions are yellow green. I’d get it checked out. I would have replied earlier but the whole thread disappeared overnight

Hi, the saliva thing is very unpleasant so I'm sorry you're suffering. My consultant recommended rinsing my mouth with warm lightly salted water which did help, not too much salt though as it will make your already poor sore mouth even more sore. I promise that the saliva will improve but unfortunately everyone reacts so differently to radiotherapy that it's impossible to say when but you'll suddenly realise soon enough that it's improving.
This may or may not be relevant but my consultant advised me today to have lots of Vit C and also have camomile tea to help my throat and the very thick saliva I have. Apparently both work well. Since I dislike camomile tea he suggested just gargling with it...

Camomile tea can be nicely disguised with a tiny bit of honey
