Today marks 6 months since I rang the bell. We didn't manage our wedding anniversary meal the next day (no surprises there!), will celebrate tonight.
Eating is pretty good, no problems swallowing, just the all too familiar dry mouth. Trying new (old favourites) things all the time, and so long as I have caphosol or gelclair to hand if I push it too far all good. No blisters for a few weeks. Even managed a curry this week. Can't say I enjoy food like I used to yet, but my waistline appreciates that!
I get tired, but am back at work, so to be expected. Mentally in a much better place for that though. The greeting I get from the pooch when I get home melts my heart every day. The exercise and fresh air walking her are the best medicine. Also getting more of the much missed grandma time.
A bit of stiffness around neck and jaw, but the exercises relieve that. I must look like a mad woman as I drive to work stretching my mouth Massaging to help manage the lymphodema, sometimes feels like my neck is being squeezed. Clinic this week, hoping to see SLT just to check looking after voice properly.
Week in a cottage with lots of dog walks and chilled time for the 3 of us planned at the end of the month. Looking forward to that.
From some of my darkest days 6 months ago I look back in wonder at the progress. This beast is beatable and life can be bloomin' brilliant again. If you're in the thick of it now, never doubt yourselves, have faith and ask for help when needed. You'll get there!!
Hugs all round and thanks to you all for helping, Ronnie x
Well done Ronnie. Those milestones are important. It reminds us that there is life and a good one to be had and that we can all push past those awful few weeks after we are jettisoned from the accelerator room into the comfort of home. Bleak as those first few weeks are the sun does poke through in dribs and drabs till it floods our hearts again. I sit typing this in the pouring rain but nothing puts out my living fire. I am so grateful and in awe of our NHS and how it manages to get us fixed despite the battles the doctors and nurses have to fight on a daily basis
We’ve got through this and others will.
