Not content with prostate cancer which I had treated 5 years ago (all good so far) I seem to have signed up for oropharyngeal HPV16+ cancer too. From neck lump referral (2 weeks after I spotted it) it was 49 days until selective neck dissection/carotid branch ligation and TORS base of tongue mucosectomy/tonsillectomy last Thursday. As I wait for the morphine to kick in again I can't help feeling that this one is going to get me (occult primary although surgeon has good feeling about having found it in glossotonsillar sulcus and dug deep to get a good margin). Sadly of course it had made its way to 2 lymph nodes already so it's on the loose. Treatment is brutal and TORS is considered non-invasive. I had retired at 60 after prostate cancer to be sure of some QoL. Ha! I'm 61. That went well.
From a hospital ward in Leicester at 3 am (they've been so kind) greetings.
