Hi everyone, I feel absolutely stupid, I've been diagnosed with neck and tongue cancer, I've had all the tests and biopsies,  I was in hospital for a week to have a Peg fitted, what never happened, this was so I could have six week treatment, radiotherapy every day and one day Chemo Therapy every week, I was sent for a second opinion at Northampton Hospital, after having more Biopsies done they are now going to operate, the surgeon has told me what may happen during surgery, I must say I'm literally terrified, I just got my head around having cancer, then radiotherapy...I'm absolutely terrified...

  • Hi

  • Yes I'm have dissection my lymph node and  removal, also part of my tongue removed on my right side also using my forearm to re consturct my tongue and no I haven't had any radiotherapy or chemo therapy, they are saying the operation would be best for the treatment ..

  • If you can avoid radiotherapy then that is a godsend. There are a few people here who have had the same op but not too many. If you look at the Mouth Cancer Foundation website they have a weekly zoom meeting on Mondays and a very active private social media group. There are lots of patients in your shoes there.

  • PS there are members here who have had a dissection as that’s a very common part of the treatment. Lots of help available. I’m sure somebody who can share their experience will drop in soon.

  • Hi I had tors surgery for tonsil cancer 18 months ago and a neck dissection.  I was lucky and  didn't need chemo or radiotherapy. The dissection was OK,  2 days in hospital and it has healed amazing. Slight numbness in skin still. Feel free to ask any questions . I'm just waiting for mri scan and biopsy on something on my tongue now also, so perhaps we can get each other through it. So many lovely people on hear.
